The company enjoyed its best financial results on record in May and June, despite the country being in the midst of the Coronavirus lockdown. Now the team hopes to build on that growth by attracting more new business and expanding the company’s network of offices. Matt Stockill, business development executive for the firm, said: “We’ve built a strong foundation of steady turnover since the business was founded in 2008, but this year we’ve been able to really kick-on and pick up lots of new contracts that have helped us to a new level of financial success. We were able to carry on offering our services and working on site during the pandemic and we’ve actually been even busier than we were before lockdown. We’ve taken on 10 to 15 new projects in the last few months and have already started work on site on around half of those.”

Structural Repairs specialises in strengthening, repairing and renovating commercial and domestic buildings. It provides services including underpinning, masonry repairs, structural repairs, basement waterproofing, damp proofing and timber repairs. Matt said: “Usually around 70 per cent of the work we do is for residential buildings. A lot of homeowners have been spending more time at home recently and would have been noticing issues with their properties that we have the expertise to fix. For others, because they’re at home more it’s easier for us to get in and get the work done right now, compared to when people were out at work every day. We’ve done a lot more residential work as a result in the last six months, but now lockdown has lifted we’ve been boosted by some good commercial wins. Our next goal is to establish ourselves as a supplier for the BBC One show DIY SOS, which would really help to raise our profile.”

The company moved to its new Windsor base, just a few minutes’ walk from Windsor and Eton Central Station, in June. Matt said: “The new space at Alma Road is perfectly suited to our needs. Windsor is a great location, with lots of interesting commercial developments going on. We’ve done quite a lot of railway related work in the past, so we were really excited to make a link to that by moving into an arch. We’re so close to the station that our team have a much easier commute and it’s ideal for attracting new recruits from further afield. It’s really improved our working environment, allowing us to co-locate with our sister company, Structural Engineering Services which provides design and CAD services for repair and build work.”

Since their move to Windsor, the business has also benefitted from being part of the community of businesses operating from railway arches in the town. Matt said: “We’ve done quite a lot of work with new clients and companies based in the area. Just a couple of doors down from us is an interior design and fit-out company called Revo, and we’ve picked up some work through our association with them. All in all, it’s been a really positive move for us.”

Further expansion of the business into other locations is firmly on the agenda as Structural Repairs continues to grow its team and increase its capacity to work with a wider variety of clients. Matt said: “With our new sales team in place we’ve been doing lots of work to grow our marketing and tendering capacity and to start building relationships with local authorities and agencies. Our aim is to do more contract work with people like Windsor and Eton Council, including cleaning and graffiti removal, as well as to get into more coastal maintenance and sea wall repair jobs, for example. We’re entering a key stage of our growth and would like to open two more offices so that we can expand into new areas of the UK’’.
